Block walls & Retaining Walls
Rising Sun Landscaping & Maintenance installs many types of walls. The most
popular of these in New Mexico are various types of block walls. Alternatives for
block walls include fencing.
Retaining Walls
Keystone retaining walls require preparation, trenching, and compaction but no
footer. Keystone walls are those that stack and lock together without mortar.
Most block retaining walls require 8-inch blocks with architectural specifications.
They are installed on a concrete footing and have periodic placement of re-bar.
Upon various inspections, these walls are filled with concrete.
Block walls
Block walls are not intended to retain soil, simply act as a barrier between one area
and another. Many types of block exist for these walls. Split block is very popular
and presents a rugged styled finish. Smooth block can be colored or plain concrete
color. Slump block, often white in color, were popular in the past and are usually
smaller sized block.
Block wall repair
Rising Sun Landscaping and Maintenance can usually repair block walls damaged by
impact or other causes. This is usually done by removing damaged sections and
rebuilding. Damage to block walls due to settlement causes cracking across a wall
leading to its failure. This can be tricky. Repairing settlement issues usually requires
removal of the wall section and creating a stable foundation for the replacement
wall.
